For me, when I make a photograph, it’s about connectedness. It begins with a connectedness to whatever has drawn me to bring out my camera. When I connect in a resonant way it feels a bit like what athletes call “the zone” and a little bit of magic can take place, something more than is immediately apparent.
In a photograph it is easy to make an image of a “likeness”, something that resembles the outer image. To make something that conveys a sense of its soul however is quite a different matter. It is this I seek. A successful photograph can draw out character and essence – when successful this can speak volumes, without a word.
Whether in portraiture or landscape, my intent is to reveal a bridge that allows people to connect, to see, to feel…
