ABOUT THE ARTIST

I am interested in paintings of Victorian women that are dramatic and arresting in poses and gestures that appear to be centred around the action of sleeping. These images can open the doors of possibility to many heightened emotional states - calamity, exhortation, madness and even death. With such powerful and deeply human emotions portrayed, we may sometimes recognise ourselves - or perhaps we have invaded an unguarded moment, private and fleeting.

In my work I have brought these poses of the past into my world of the present. The human figure endures and still has a way of eliciting a genuine and universal response within us all.
