WAYDE OWEN

Wayde Owen
ABOUT THE ARTIST

Wayde Owen is an Australian artist who works in painting, drawing and sculpture. His works are critical allegories that deeply engage the human condition, personal history, mongrelness, memory, and mortality. Subjects are arranged in colourful and enigmatic formations on the canvas in bold colours for psychological impact. His paintings and drawings of anthropomorphic quails, Staffordshire bull terriers, skulls, family members and heads of the dead are all part of a rich and personal gathering. The shapes that extrude from the mouths of Owen’s subjects are a deliberately ambiguous architectural shape. These structures mirror the ambiguity of “message” and communication in all its forms. The underlying narrative involves Owen’s own on-going studies into the collapse of communication. His work is intended to pose a series of questions regarding what remains; when a man dies, what is his legacy? How do we digest his existence and where does his message go?
