Tea is deep-rooted in daily life habitually and culturally. The act of drinking tea engenders the pleasurable indulgence and also the associated social interaction. Besides the symbolic notions, my teas in this exhibition aim to evoke an awareness of humanity – a being able to say, what it is to be human.
My biggest challenge is to make visible connections to my thoughts and ideas – all of which are indicated in the relatively long titles. In the creative practice my goal is to create images which are strong and soft, bold and precise, beautiful and ugly, figurative and abstract, all at the same time.
To me, painting becomes a cathartic visual diary which allows a deeper awareness of how wonderful it is to be alive and to be able to get a sense of who I am. Art making is a source of discovery, constant challenge, and pleasure to me.
